And the winner is…

So Canada has voted for the hottest Canadians.

This year, officials with the Gemini awards decided to add a new category. They asked people to vote for the Hottest male and female Canadian.

After a vote to whittle it down from 20 to 5, and then another vote to pick the winner from those five, the winners were announced last night at the awards ceremony.

And the hottest female Canadian is:

Leah Miller from So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

And the hottest male Canadian is:

Brendan Fehr from Samurai Girl and CSI: Miami.

Hottest Canadian Part 2

So a few weeks ago I blogged about the Gemini Awards creating a new one this year for the hottest male and female Canadian TV star.

I think it was wrong for several reasons. I didn’t even get into the part where people who normally turn into the awards show probably won’t care, and those who don’t watch won’t start to because of this new award.

But I couldn’t believe the choices that were included. Out of 20 women, a few of them weren’t even on TV anymore, and there were obvious ones missing (Elisha Cuthbert and Evangeline Lilly were two examples). They also misspelled the names of two of their nominees.

But now the choice has been narrowed down to the top 5, and I must say, if this is how Canadians voted, I am very disappointed with our choices. No wonder people lose confidence in the voting system.

For the women, the final five are:

Trish Stratus is one of the five women finalists.

— Kim Cattrall for Sex and the City, which hasn’t been a TV show for four years;

— Shenae Grimes for 90210, which I’m surprised hasn’t been cancelled yet;

— Leah Miller for So You Think You Can Dance Canada, in which I don’t even know what she does on the show;

— Ngozi Paul for Da Kink in My Hair, which I don’t think anyone watches;

— and Trish Stratus for Stratusphere, which I’ve never heard of.

I’m guessing these were the five of the 20 contestants that said they could make it to the Geminis, and that’s how they made it this far.

Taylor Kitsch is a finalist for the hottest guy.
