So Fox has decided to cancel 24. [picapp align=”right” wrap=”false” link=”term=24+fox&iid=7524056″ src=”e/5/1/f/2010_Winter_TCA_bc3f.jpg?adImageId=11766716&imageId=7524056″ width=”234″ height=”359″ /]
Most people saw this coming. The ratings were down, and a lot of people thought the show was getting stale.
I could see that. The problem with 24, like any TV series, is that you always need to top the previous season. Since 24 started on such a high, it only made sense that it would get more difficult to top.
But still, a bad season of 24 is still better than a good season of almost everything else.
I remember when I first got into the show. I had bought Season 1 on DVD a year or two earlier for cheap, and figured it would be better to wait before watching it. One day a few Christmases ago, my wife and I were looking for something to watch before going to bed. With nothing on TV, we decided top start watching the first season of 24.
Big mistake. We ended up watching the first six episodes before forcing ourselves to turn off the TV at about 3 a.m. The show became out life. We’d wake up, watch an episode before work. Come home from work, and watch another few episodes before going out. Come home, and stay up late watching it.
We borrowed the rest of the seasons from friends, and end up going through four seasons in a few weeks. [picapp align=”right” wrap=”false” link=”term=elisha+cuthbert&iid=2454499″ src=”4/4/4/8/Elisha_Cuthbert_1d5c.jpg?adImageId=11767767&imageId=2454499″ width=”234″ height=”385″ /]
I’ve watched every episode on TV since. My wife has since moved away from the show (partly because she doesn’t like the violence and torture scenes, partly because she ended up watching the Bachelor).
24 was great at the beginning because it gave you tons of surprises. For example, no one knew who the mole was in CTU, and clues left it open so it could have been anybody. But this season, no one knew there was a mole until the person revealed themselves.
Another example is Kim’s friend’s dad, who, along with Kim’s mother, went looking for the missing girls. But at the end, you realized he wasn’t actually the dad, and was a bad guy.
Now, they don’t seem to build up things as much. There’s no hints that someone may be a traitor. They just come up one episode as a bad guy.
But like I said, it’s still better than most of the stuff on TV.
