Week 14 NFL picks

How good are the Minnesota Vikings?

Adrian Peterson has already tied a career high for touchdowns in a season.

Not very good, apparently.

That may sound strange, considering they currently have a 10-2 record, but the Vikings are one of those teams that are worse than their record appears.

The Vikings have had one of the easiest schedules in the league so far this season. Look at the teams they’ve beaten: Cleveland, Detroit (twice), Green Bay (twice), San Fran, St. Louis, Baltimore, Seattle and Chicago. Their combined record? 34 and 63, for a crazy 35 per cent winning percentage.

Only one of those teams has a winning record (the Packers), and they only play two of their last four games against teams that are better than .500 (Cincinnati and the Giants).

Brett Favre has certainly helped the team. Adrian Peterson’s yards per game is down, but he’s already matched a career high for touchdowns in a season with 12.

But again, they’re playing against weak teams. What will happen when they play some good teams?

This week, they face the Cincinnati Bengals, one of their toughest games so far this year. The Vikings are favoured by 6 1/2, but I think that’s too big a spread. I think the Bengals are going to take the game.

Last week, the Vikings lost to the Cardinals, another team with a winning record. How good will their confidence be if they lose another game to a potential playoff team? It’s going to be tough to recover from that.

So how good are the Minnesota Vikings?

I think we’re about to find out.
