#5: Henri Richard
With all due respect to the Hulls, Sutters and Gretzkys, the Richards are the best brother tandem to ever play in the NHL.
And when it comes to Stanley Cups, it’s the Pocket Rocket that has the advantage over his older brother.
Henri Richard has won 11 Stanley Cups as a player, the most of any player in NHL history.
He joined the Canadiens in 1955, at the start of five straight Stanley Cups for the Habs.
While he never matched the scoring exploits of his brother, Henri did contribute quite a bit offensively. Twice he led the league in assists.
Richard retired in 1975, and his jersey was retired that year. He was elected to the hall of fame four years later, in 1979.
• Both Henri Richard and his brother, Maurice Richard have the same first two name: Joseph Henri. The older brother’s full name is Joseph Henri Maurice Richard.
• Henri Richard was actually born on a Leap Day: Feb. 29, 1936.
• He is one of only 15 players in NHL history to score a Stanley Cup winning goal in overtime, when he scored about two minutes into overtime in Game 6 in 1966 against the Detroit Red Wings.
• He scored another Stanley Cup winning goal in Game 7 of the 1971 Stanley Cup finals. The Habs were down 2-1 going into the third period. when Richard scored the tying goal and then the game-winner.
