Markov is in his eighth season with the Habs, and has shown an offensive and defensive leadership on the back end.

Except for the 2003-04 season, Markov has seen an increase in his offensive numbers every single season. Last year, he had a career high with 16 goals and 58 points.

He also plays against the opposition’s top lines, helping shut down the offensive players on the other teams.

He has played for Russia at the World Championships, World Cup, World Junior Championships and the Olympics.

In 2000, he won the Russian League’s Most Valuable Player Award.
