So Sam Mitchell has been fired from the Toronto Raptors.
A lot of people are happy about this, but I don’t really have a leaning any way.
Mitchell brought the Raptors to the playoffs after years of being dreadful. He also brought the team through the troubled times of the horrible Vince Carter trade.
He was tough on the team, which was good. But the team seemed to have stopped listening.
But the problems of the Raptors don’t fall on Mitchell. He hasn’t had a great rebounder to help Chris Bosh (Jermaine O’Neal is fine, but not great). They also don’t have a great defender, and there’s way too many streaky players (Anthony Parker, I’m looking in your direction).
Hopefully, the Raptors respond to this, and at least can get to the second round of the playoffs. But it will be tough with the Celtics, Magic, Cavaliers and Pistons in the conference. They’ll have to beat one of those teams to do it, but they’ll need more help to do it.
