Hometown Olympian

Total shock to me this morning. I’m getting ready for work, with the Olympics on the TV, when Marie-Eve Marleau starts her second dive.

That’s when the announcers said she was born in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador. Who knew that someone from my hometown was in the Olympics?

All of a sudden, I’m paying more attention to the 10-metre diving event. Marleau didn’t win (she finished seventh), but it was fun to watch and cheer on a fellow Newfie (or Labradorian, depending on your view).

She was actually favoured to medal in synchronized diving with her partner Emilie Heymans, but they missed qualifying by a dive. Heymans went out to capture silver in the Olympics in the 10-metre diving event.

Congrats to both ladies!
