For a good chunk of the third period of Game 5, Detroit Red Wing fans were crazy. There were chants of “Ozzy” for goalie Chris Osgood, “We want the cup” for the whole team, and general cheers and whistles just when a puck was cleared out of the defensive zone.
The crowd was pumped. At least, they were until Pittsburgh scored with 35 seconds left to tie the game and send it to overtime. After that, there were no chants. The fans were less cocky, and Pittsburgh ended up winning the game in triple-overtime.
I would have liked to have seen the Detroit fans continue their loud chest-thumping ways right through the overtime. Let Pittsburgh know its your house. Give support to your team. Don’t stop the chants.
You want the Cup. Let the rest of the world know it through the whole game, not just when you’re winning in the third period.
