Most people are predicting the Ducks or the Sharks to come out of the west in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.
Personally, I think the sixth-seeded Avalanche have a good chance of making it. They’re well rested because most of their top players were injured this year. Sakic and Smyth both missed time. Forsberg took off the first 60 games.
They picked up Adam Foote at the trade deadline. He plays 20-plus minutes a game, which takes some of the pressure off the other defencemen.
Their forward lines are very deep. Smyth is on the third line, with Sakic and Forsberg leading the other two lines.
Their goaltender, Theodore, has been having his best season since he won the Hart trophy with Montreal a few years ago.
Plus, they’re playing a very beatable team in Minnesota. Knocking them out could give the Avalanche the momentum needed to make a run to the finals.
This year, don’t be surprised to see Colorado make it to the finals.
