Much to the chagrin of my wife, I’m growing a playoff beard.
I will shave on Thursday morning, and will not shave again until the Montreal Canadiens are eliminated or hoisting the Stanley Cup. While I have gone a few weeks without shaving in the past, I have never thought of going two months with growth on my face, with the exception of a goatee I had a few years back.
I’ve decided to do this for this year’s playoffs to show support for my team. Why this year? First, Montreal has never had the chance to go as deep as they can this year while I have been able to grow whiskers. I was 16 when they won the Cup in 1993. Since then, they have either missed the playoffs, or squeaked into the postseason.
Hopefully, they go all the way this year. And I will be there with them, stroking the beard, every step of the way.
