See what happens when you’re away on holidays for a week?
You don’t follow any football a week. You have no idea who is injured, who is questionable. You make your football picks too quickly. You make a quick post to get it up with no time to explain your reasoning.
So what else can you expect other than a 4-10 record? Even my fantasy football team suffered.
But I’m back into the swing of things now. And now that I have time to follow what is going on, I expect a much better week. I guarantee at least five wins this week! That’s right. Five!
On to the picks.
Green Bay Packers at Cleveland Browns, Green Bay favoured by 7 1/2
What happened to the Packers and the Browns the past few weeks to not make this a double digit spread? The Packers have scored almost twice the amount of points as the Browns, and are coming off a bye week. So they’ve had more time to prepare for a horrible team. Green Bay to win.
San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans, Texans favoured by 2 1/2
Houston has been an inconsistent team this year. They win one, lose one. They’re 3-3, but haven’t had their running game going this year, for whatever reason. The 49ers have a 3-2 record, but their three wins come against the Rams, Cardinals and Seahawks, not exactly the cream of the crop. I look for the Texans to pull out a tough victory here.
Minnesota Vikings at Pittsburgh Steelers, Steelers favoured by 3 1/2
I have a theory that when a team is still undefeated after five weeks, you keep picking them until they lose. The Vikings are in for a tough week, but Pittsburgh hasn’t looked great this year. Vikings to win.
New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Patriots favoured by 14 1/2
They can’t make this line high enough. The Patriots score an average of 27 points a game, whereas the Bucs allow that many. The Pats are getting better as the season wears on, the Bucs are getting worse. Pats to win easily. (By the way, ignore that fact I took the Pats to lose last week in my upset special).
Indianapolis Colts at St. Louis Rams, Colts favoured by 13 1/2
See the previous entry. Colts to win.
San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Chargers favoured by 4 1/2
The Chargers choke on the big stage: playoffs, Monday nights, etc. This game is on Sunday afternoon, and is overshadowed by a few other games (like Vikings-Steelers). That means the Chargers will dominate. Chargers to win.
Buffalo Bills at Carolina Panthers, Panthers favoured by 6 1/2
What’s the over/under on when Terrell Owens explodes? He needs to keep quiet to be able to sign with a good team next year, but he needs a good quarterback, which he doesn’t have in Buffalo. I’d say it happens within the next three weeks. Panthers to win.
New York Jets at Oakland Raiders, Jets favoured by 6 1/2
This is too high a spread for a team that lost to the Bills last week. Mark Sanchez will be looking to play better after throwing half a dozen interceptions in his last game. The Raiders will be coming in on a high after downing the Eagles. I expect the Jets to win, just not by 6 1/2. Raiders to cover.
Chicago Bears at Cincinnati Bengals, Bengals favoured by 1 1/2
The Bengals have played two tough defences this year (the Ravens and Steelers) and won both games. But their last three games have been by three points each. They manage to stay in games and win late. I think the Bears will be too much for them this week. Bears to win.
Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys, Cowboys favoured by 3 1/2
The Cowboys struggle against average to good team. Atlanta is an average to good team. Enough said. Falcons to cover.
New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins, Saints favoured by 6 1/2
Just like my reasoning for the Vikings, at this stage of the season, you have to go with the teams that are hot, and no one is hotter than the Saints. Saints to win.
Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants, Giants favoured by 6 1/2
I wouldn’t want to be the Cardinals this week. The Giants are going to be ticked off after getting blown out by the Saints last week, and they’re going to take it out on the Cardinals. Look for a big lead early, followed by Warner throwing for 350 yards because the Cardinals give up the running game, only to still lose by 15 points or so. Giants to win.
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins, Eagles favoured by 6 1/2
Has there been any team less deserving to play on a Monday night more than the Redskins? This will be their first time playing a game against a team that had posted a win. Yet, the Redskins are only 2-4. They’ve basically fired their coach without actually firing him. They had a bad quarterback, no running game, and an invisible defence. The Eagles will win this one easily.
